The stars came out en masse for designer Jeremy Scott’s very first stateside Moschino presentation. Scott unveiled his Resort collection at L.A. Live’s Event Deck on Friday, June 10, and the audience was packed with celeb admirers of Scott’s vibrant clothes. “It’s very natural for him to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing,” Katy Perry told Vanity Fair about the rainbow-colored collection. “He doesn’t take it so seriously, and that’s why I love him. I think he has a great sense of style, a great sense of humor, and a pulse on what’s going on in youth culture, and people really relate to him.”
The pop star was being swarmed by photographers and fans—she graciously posed for selfies—as she tried making her way backstage post-show for an outfit change. “I’ve got to get out of this skeleton suit,” she said of her skintight, black Moschino jumpsuit bedazzled with a sequin rib cage. “Even though it’s an illusion that I’m skinny, I’m super-fat underneath, because I am no longer sample size—that’s what your 30s are!”
Earlier, Cindy Crawford, who was one of the first guests to arrive with her husband, Rande Gerber, said that she was looking forward to seeing her 16-year-old son, Presley Gerber, walk in his first runway show.
The couple’s 14-year-old daughter, Kaia Gerber, who’s already making a name for herself in the modeling world, shared her brother’s philosophy for his first-ever turn on the catwalk. “He was like, ‘I’m going to wing it.’ It’s good as his first show because he doesn’t have to be serious or walk a certain way. He can kind of experiment and have fun.”
Also walking the runway were models Miranda Kerr (who opened the show), Alessandra Ambrosio, Jourdan Dunn, Chanel Iman, Taylor Hill, Anna Cleveland, Devon Aoki (who closed, walking out with Scott), as well as newcomers and celebrity youngsters Anwar Hadid (younger brother of Gigi and Bella), Hailey Baldwin (daughter of Stephen Baldwin), and Cami Morrone, stepdaughter of Al Pacino. Other familiar faces in the crowd included Caitlyn Jenner, Candis Cayne, Vanessa Hudgens, Soko, Christina Milian, Colton Haynes, and Bella Thorne.
The second day of Made L.A.’s two-day intiative to bring fashion to Los Angeles attracted a younger crowd, mostly consisting of teenage fans of cult fashion favorite Hood By Air and rapper Tyler, the Creator, who was debuting his line Golf Wang. Both shows proved more avant-garde in their approach.
“I got it out of my system,” said Hood by Air designer Shayne Oliver, following his capsule-collection presentation, which consisted of a performance piece starring Yves Tumor a.k.a. Sean Bowie, who chanted and moaned atop a mound of sand, as others dressed in H.B.A. followed suit, getting dirty, rolling around, throwing sand, and shoving each other. Spectators encircled the intimate set—a haze of fog with strobe lights flashing. “I told them walk around, feel the music. They took it to another level.”
Tyler, the Creator’s Golf Wang show had a completely different feel. Models walked through a set that looked like a teenage bedroom, save for a skate ramp right in the middle of the runway. This made total sense, given that the collection consisted of skate classics with vibrant colors: bright pink, orange, yellow, blue, and green. Tyler’s line isn’t new, but this was his first show.
As suspected, Kanye West and Kendall Jenner, both friends of Tyler’s, came out to support him. The two caused a media frenzy when they made their way to their seats, moments before the show began. Solange Knowles, Amandla Stenberg, Janelle Monáe, Blake Anderson, and Cole and Dylan Sprouse also showed up to catch both the runway show and a performance of Tyler’s new single, “My Ego.”
“Thank you, I love you so much,” said Tyler to West, who handed him an envelope after the show. “Thank you for coming. You’re a beautiful human.”
Tyler then gave that envelope to a fan to open and read: “From Golf to you, pick a shoe.”
“You get a shoe! You get a shoe! You get a shoe!” exclaimed Tyler, doing his best Oprah impression. The audience roared after they were promised a pair of sneakers, dubbed Golf le Fleur, by the end of the year. “I love all you motherfuckers,” their hero shouted.
