Caitlyn Jenner recalls the moment that her daughters Kendall and Kylie were assured that everything was “going to be okay” after she announced her transition to Diane Sawyer on 20/20.

In April 2015, Jenner sat down with the longtime journalist and came out as transgender in the special sit-down interview.

“Alright, so there I am. I’m sitting on this couch and Diane Sawyer is coming on. My young kids, especially Kendall and Kylie, they don’t want anybody to hurt their daddy,” Jenner, 67, said in an Entertainment Tonight exclusive excerpt of HBO’s new documentary The Trans List.

“Now, I’m sitting on the couch with all my girls — Kourtney, Kimberly, Khloé, Kendall, Kylie — this is by far the most social media family in the world. They can sit there with their little phones and reach 140 million people all over the world,” she recalls of sitting next to her five daughters while watching the televised interview.

Upon making her reveal on the news program, Jenner remembers seeing positive comments pour out on social media, including affirmations from Lady Gaga, Miley Cryus and Elton John.

“They were all just going crazy on social media,” the I Am Cait star recalled of the support she received after announcing her transition. “I think at that point it made my two little girls, who obviously live in that world — I think it made them feel really good. Like, ‘You know what? It’s going to be okay. People still love my daddy.’ ”

Jenner will join Laverne Cox and many others in portrait photographer and filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders’ The Trans List, which explores the experiences of Americans who identify as transgender. The documentary will highlight a diverse group of individuals to tell their stories in their own words, addressing identity, family, career, love, struggle and accomplishment.

The Trans List premieres Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on HBO.
