Getting candid. Caitlyn Jenner is discussing the challenges she faced with her gender identity struggle during her marriage to Kris Jenner in a new interview with AOL's Makers.

Caitlyn, 66, who was married to Kris for 24 years until their divorce in 2015, confirmed her transition last year, and later revealed her name change from Bruce and introduced her new self in a Vanity Fair cover story. In the AOL Maker's interview, the Olympic gold medalist said that Kris, 60, laid down the law when they lived together and told her not to wear women's clothing at home.

"The rules, kind of, for Kris and I [were] don't dress up, certainly around the house," the I Am Cait star said, adding that her wife told her, "If you really feel the need to do that, when you're on the road take stuff and do that."

Caitlyn admitted she did that for years.

"I'd go on the road for speaking engagements, take a bunch of stuff, dress up at the hotel, walk around, do whatever I wanted to do, just to feel a little bit better about myself," she said. "And I kind of dealt with it that way."

While she did most of her dressing up while she traveled, Caitlyn admitted that in the early days of their relationship, she and Kris "dressed up a few times … but then she didn't want anymore part of that."

"I respected that and kind of kept it away but it was always there," she added. "A lot of times too when you have somebody in your life that's diminishing that, you can deal with that but it gets tougher and tougher and tougher with time."

Kris and Caitlyn had a major falling out last year after the momager claimed that her ex dissed her in the July 2015 Vanity Fair story when she claimed the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star knew about her previous attempt to transition with hormones before they began dating in the 1980s. They have since smoothed things over, with Kris even appearing on Caitlyn's E! reality show.

"I think that I really want her to be happy and be really comfortable in all the things where she says she wasn’t her true authentic self for most of her life," Kris told Ellen DeGeneres in March. "[She] knew when she was 4 that she felt like that. So you don't want somebody to be miserable or in pain or anything of that."
